Join Master Gardener Judi Kelland for a guided hiking tour of Newfoundland’s most ubiquitous landscapes. Learn the difference between a bog and fen. Follow the path up the hill for a breathtaking view of Conception Bay. Don't forget it's the season for whales and icebergs, so you might get lucky in that department too. As an added bonus, bring your gardening questions for expert advice just in time for the summer season.
You’ll stay with us at Ochre House in one of our beautifully appointed rooms. Your hosts Paul Pope and Lisa Porter will serve delicious homemade meals and share their adventures as apprentice gardeners for an unforgettable weekend excursion.
Difficulty: Light with some moderate. Hiking will be across heath and former railbed trails, up to 4 km with elevation up to 60 metres.

After finishing her BSc. (Hons.) at Memorial, St. John’s native Judi Kelland moved to Calgary where she planted marigolds and petunias in her first garden and has been fulfilling her gardening passion ever since. She completed the Master Gardener Program though Olds Agricultural College and the Calgary Zoo and Botanical Garden. She has traveled extensively, living in the tropics and the U.K. always playing with flora, touring gardens and volunteering for hands-on experience. Judi has extensive knowledge of local and introduced plants and an excellent understanding of ecosystems. Since returning home Judi has been a Director with the NL Horticultural Society and out hugging trees. Yes, she talks to plants and digs her own holes.
What is a Master Gardener?
Master Gardeners are experienced gardeners who have studied horticulture extensively with a University or College and continue to upgrade their skills through technical training. With this training and continuing education, Master Gardeners provide expert horticultural advice on the art and science of gardening to the general public.
